Pour fêter le Nouvel An chinois et célébrer comme il se doit l'entrée dans l'Année du Tigre, nous vous proposons le nouvel album de John Menoud, Music for King Hu, qui paraîtra le 21 mars prochain en physique.
C'est un hommage rendu au wu xia pan, au cinéma de King Hu et aux actrices Hsu Feng, Cheng Pei-pei, Shang Kuan Ling-feng et Angela Mao.

Grâce à avec L’Hirondelle d’or, King Hu a remis au goût du jour le wu xia pan (film de sabre chinois), genre tombé en désuétude au début des années 60, comme Sergio Leone le fera avec le western. Et tout comme Sergio Leone, King Hu a poussé le genre dans ses limites, étirant la temporalité pour lui conférer une portée métaphysique.
Ayant profondément foi en son médium, il a poussé à son paroxysme la puissance formelle et la beauté des images, leur insufflant un lyrisme inconcevable jusqu’à lui. Et, à l’instar d’Il était une fois dans l’Ouest, King Hu semble avoir voulu, avec A Touch of Zen, faire exploser le genre qui a fait sa gloire et fouiller dans les fragments pour voir ce qu’ils avaient à offrir.
